local inventor of the talking keychain "Cajun in Your Pocket," scored another hit with "Mr. T in Your Pocket," a similar device that spouts phrases by the Mohawked celebrity. "Mr. T" was named one of the Top Ten Toys of 2003 by the toy-industry magazine TD Monthly, which called it "a one-of-a-kind stocking stuffer," and was featured on The Daily Show and Jimmy Kimmel Live.

Dr. Tyler Curiel
is not only chief of hematology and medical oncology at the Tulane University School of Medicine, but he also can dribble a basketball pretty well. In a fundraising stunt called "Bounce for Life" to support his research on a rare cancer called sinonasal undifferentiated carcinoma, Curiel broke a world record for dribbling a basketball while running. In a 24-hour period, Curiel ran more than 108 miles.

The 2003 Voodoo Music Experience
has been nominated for "Music Festival of the Year" by the Pollstar Magazine Concert Industry Awards. In its fifth year, the festival produced by Rehage Entertainment, Inc. expanded from one day to three in 2003, bringing more than 100,000 fans to City Park to see such artists as Marilyn Manson, Staind, 50 Cent, and The White Stripes. The awards will be announced Feb. 6 in Hollywood.

Juvenile Services of Baton Rouge
failed to protect young female inmates from sexual abuse by a youth detention-center guard. Timothy Carter, 35, admitted last week that he had sex with two 16-year-old inmates, forced another to perform oral sex, and gave one of them the drug ecstasy. Juvenile Services director Rodger Aucoin said Carter got around procedures designed to keep male guards from being alone with incarcerated girls.
