The New Orleans Saints' 2003 ad campaign,
created in conjunction with Peter A. Mayer Advertising, was chosen as the best TV campaign in all of sports at the recent 2004 National Sports Forum ADchievement Awards in Chicago. The humorous "Don't you wish every day was game day?" spots were also finalists in the radio and billboard categories, putting the Saints among just four teams to win honors in three of the contest's five categories.

Loyola University law professor Henry Gabriel
has been elected to the Governing Council of the International Institute for the Unification of Private Law in Rome. The International Institute consists of representatives from 59 nations who study "the needs and methods for modernizing, harmonizing and coordinating private and commercial law between countries." Gabriel will be the sole American representative on the council.

District Attorney Eddie Jordan
may oversee an office that could always use more funding, but his decision to let attorneys buy ad space on his unofficial Web site, www.nolada.com, sends the message that the D.A. has a special affiliation with those lawyers. A contract for the partnership -- which is not available to criminal defense attorneys -- even tells would-be advertisers they will "benefit from affiliation with the New Orleans District Attorney."

Rep. Wilfred Pierre, D-Lafayette
may have voted for stricter drunk-driving laws for Louisiana, but he didn't have to face the same penalties as the average Joe last week after his arrest at a DWI checkpoint. A Lafayette police spokesman says the department is investigating why Pierre wasn't booked into jail after he received a summons for first-offense DWI, as were three other drivers arrested at the same checkpoint that night.
