2001 Barossa Valley Estate Spires Shiraz
Australia
$10-$13

Formed by enterprising Barossa Valley vignerons in 1985, the Valley Growers Cooperative has gained recognition and a reputation for excellent wines. This medium-bodied, soft wine is evenly balanced and well structured, with a fresh acidity. Aromas of red cherries, blackberries and spice are joined by a hint of oak from 12 months aging in 3- to 4-year old American and French barriques. On the palate, expect bright fruit flavors from ideally ripened fruit and sweet cedar. Drink now or within the next four years. A very food-friendly wine that's great with venison, duck, pasta dishes, burgers and roast beef. Available at Cork & Bottle, The Wine Seller, Dorignac's, Habano's of Slidell and Acquistapace's Covington Super Market.
