2000 Kempton Clark MAD Zin
California
$9-$11

Grapes for "MAD" Zin -- an acronym for Multiple Appellation Designate -- were sourced from Paso Robles fruit (27 percent), the cool Mendocino area (12 percent), and estate-grown fruit from Dunnigan Hills (61 percent). The blend of 80 percent Zinfandel, 19 percent Syrah and 9 percent Petite Sirah spent 16 months aging in new to 5-year-old American oak. Bright berry fruit aromas with hints of allspice and nutmeg give way to raspberry and strawberry flavors tinged with green tea and a zesty spiciness. Good with barbecue, Cajun dishes and Italian cuisine. Available at Cork & Bottle, Dorignac's, Foodie's in Metairie, Cost Plus World Market in Harvey and Hugh's Wine Cellar in Mandeville.
