2001 R. H. Phillips EXP Viognier
Dunnigan Hills, California
$11-$14
The luscious white grape of northern Rhone that produces the exciting, yet somewhat rare Condrieu -- Viognier -- has found a home in California. Half of this award-winning Viognier was aged six months in stainless steel to intensify fruit flavors and aromas and half in older French barrels to add richness and complexity. Compelling aromas of peach, orange peel and exotic floral notes precede flavors of mango, hazelnut, vanilla and spice. A full-bodied wine with crisp acidity. Good with spicy seafood dishes, fruited roast pork, dried or stewed figs. Available at Whole Foods Market on Esplanade Avenue, Dorignac's, Martin Wine Cellar in Metairie, Cost Plus World Markets, Foodie's Metairie, Sav-A-Center on Airline Drive and Mandeville, Rouse's in Covington and Acquistapace's Covington SuperMarket. -- Brenda Maitland
