Credit cards. $$

O'FLAHERTY'S IRISH CHANNEL PUB
514 Toulouse St. 529-1317

O'Flaherty's is associated with Guinness and soccer the way mashed potatoes are associated with gravy, but the pub also features authentic Irish cuisine. The beef stew and shepherd's pie are made using the recipes Danny O'Flaherty's family use at home in Connemara. Sandwiches are also available, and the corned beef is particularly popular. Lunch and dinner daily. Credit cards. $

O'HENRY'S FOOD & SPIRITS
634 S. Carrollton Ave. 866-9741;
710 Terry Pkwy. 433-4111; 3020

Severn Ave. 888-9383For many in New Orleans, O'Henry's is synonymous with hamburgers, serving 6-oz. burgers with traditional toppings. The more adventurous prefer the O'Henry, a hamburger topped with pastrami and Swiss cheese. For appetites not satisfied by that, there's also the Double Stack Pepper Jack burger with two patties, each topped with barbecue sauce and chopped andouille, and pepper jack cheese on top. Lunch and dinner daily. Credit cards. $

OKI NAGO
2712 N. Arnoult Road 780-8588

This Metairie buffet promises almost anything diners want in Japanese cooking. The sushi is popular, as are the soups, teriyaki and seafood hibachi dishes. Appropriately for a cuisine as delicate as Japanese, the restaurant is non-smoking. Lunch and dinner daily. Credit cards and local personal checks. $$

OLDE NAWLINS COOKERY
729 Conti St. 529-3663;
www.oldenawlinscookery.com

This French Quarter spot treats visitors and locals to all the blockbusters of New Orleans cuisine, including alligator sausage po-boys and a blackened redfish that's topped with crawfish tails and a lemon butter sauce. The stuffed bell peppers are a specialty, packed with hot sausage and ground beef and covered in marinara sauce, sauteed shrimp and crawfish. Reservations recommended. Breakfast, lunch and dinner daily. Credit cards. $$

OLIVE BRANCH CAFE
1995 Barataria Blvd. 348-2008;
5163 General De Gaulle Drive 393-1107

This Italian restaurant prides itself on the freshness of the ingredients. Pasta lovers enjoy the pasta jambalaya -- a grilled chicken breast mixed with smoked sausage and green peppers, sauteed, then served with a Cajun cream sauce over penne pasta. Lunch and dinner Monday through Saturday. Credit cards and local personal checks. $

OLIVIER'S CREOLE RESTAURANT
204 Decatur St. 525-7734

As the name suggests, Olivier's specializes in Creole cuisine and serves the traditional New Orleans dishes thought of as Creole, but offers its own twists. Olivier's gives diners a choice of okra, Creole and file gumbos, for instance. There's also the Creole rabbit, a quartered, oven-braised rabbit slow-simmered in a dark roux-based gravy. Reservations recommended. Lunch and dinner daily. Credit cards. $$

ORLEANS CAFE
135 Decatur St. 581-1136

This French Quarter restaurant offers a breakfast buffet in the morning and dinner late at night. Diners intrigued by the name will enjoy Marco's Seafood Surprise, a pasta dish featuring oysters, catfish, shrimp, calamari, crawfish and mussels sauteed with herbs, crushed red pepper and garlic in a white wine and seafood stock. One of the most popular entrees is the pork chop served on apple bleu cheese cornbread with a fig sauce. Dinner daily. Credit cards. $$

OSCAR'S
2027 Metairie Road 831-9540

This Metairie bar and grill is known for the Oscar burger. It's topped with cheese and sauteed mushrooms, and served with a loaded baked potato, and is a great start to an evening. The spinach dip with pepper jack cheese may hit the spot for those enjoying a few beers, while those looking for a snack later in the evening or on the way home will enjoy the grilled chicken sandwich. Lunch and dinner daily. Credit cards. $

OUTBACK STEAKHOUSE
2746 Severn Ave. 455-6850;
1601 Barataria Blvd. 341-5544;
830 E. I-10 Service Road. 985-649-4329;
60 Park Place Dr. 985-893-0505;
www.outback.com

There's more to this family restaurant chain than steaks and its Australian theme. The potato soup and creamy onion are rich and satisfying, and there are sandwiches and chicken. Still, the steaks, particularly the Outback Special -- a 12-oz. center- cut sirloin -- are the main attraction. Dinner daily. Credit cards. $$
