The Best and the Worst of the Week

Kim Sport,
founder of the Women's Leadership Initiative of the United Way for Greater New Orleans, was recently named a 2004 Louisiana Heroine by the Louisiana Association of Nonprofit Organizations. LANO cited Sport's success in recruiting hundreds of professional women to contribute personally and financially to the community. She was one of eight women statewide to be recognized by LANO.

The Imagination Movers
topped the tot charts with their single 'I Want My Mommy (Time for Bed).' The New Orleans kiddy phenoms recently hit No. 1 on the national children&185;s radio network XM Kids. The song's success follows the group's 2003 release Good Ideas, which earned a Parents' Choice Recommended Award and the Children's Music Web designation as 'Best Recording for Younger Children.'

Attorney General Charles Foti
included dubious new questions on applications to the state Justice Department, with the new forms requiring job seekers to disclose their race, height, weight, eye color, hair color and details about 'tattoos, scars or birthmarks.' The form requires applicants to answer all questions to be considered, and the agency's 500-plus employees were told to complete it in order to reapply for their jobs.

State Treasurer John Kennedy
was in charge of a sloppily managed unclaimed-property program that could have earned the state another $37 million had it been better administered, says the state legislative auditor. The audit says program directors didn't collect millions of dollars in fees, neglected to sell unclaimed securities and kept an incomplete database. Kennedy agrees with some of the audit's findings and disputes others.
