2001 Vincent Pouilly-Fuisse
Burgundy, France
$17-$23
There's Chardonnay and then there's white Burgundy! As more and more wine drinkers turn away from big, buttery, over-oaked California Chardonnays, the classic white Burgundy from France that took restaurant wine lists by storm decades ago remains one of the premier expressions of the grape to be found in a glass. Vinified in small oak barrels from 100 percent Chardonnay grapes, the wine is characterized by a mineraly nose with tart, appley notes. On the palate, the well-balanced, medium-bodied wine presents an appealing freshness with hints of citrus and refreshing acidity. A delicious accompaniment to fish, seafood salads and creamy pasta dishes. Available at Whole Foods Market (Uptown), The Wine Seller and Sidney's Wine Cellar.
