2001 Sierra Cantabria Rioja Tinta
Spain $9-$15
Family-owned since 1870, the winery vineyards thrive in an exceptional microclimate with both Mediterranean and Continental influences, mild winters and temperate summers. High above sea level and clinging to slopes in the Sierra Cantabria foothills, the vines burrow into clay, limestone and gravelly soil that eventually defines the wine's character. Made from 100 percent Tempranillo and aged six months in American oak, the unfiltered wine offers rich, ripe black cherry aromas, tobacco and oak notes with flavors of red currents, spice and cedar. Good with roast chicken, beef and game. Available at both Martin Wine Cellars, Cork & Bottle, Sidney's Wine Cellar, Cellars of River Ridge and Hugh's Wine Cellar in Mandeville.
