2002 Armador Cabernet Sauvignon
Maipo Valley, Chile
$10-$13

Surrounded by mountains and cooled by coastal breezes which lengthen the ripening season, the Maipo Valley produces many of Chile's leading wines. A blend of 86 percent Cabernet Sauvignon, 5 percent Merlot, 6 percent Malbec and 3 percent Cabernet Franc, the grapes were sourced from premier vineyards in Chile's central valley. Unfined and unfiltered, the intensely concentrated wine exhibits dark fruit aromas tinged with chocolate, walnuts and licorice. Supple, with harmonious tannins, the wine shows plum and berry flavors with subtle hints of tobacco. Good with beef steaks, pork chops, venison and veal. Available at Cork & Bottle, Bacchanal and Chateau Wine Cellars in Kenner. Store listings current at press time.
