James M. Klebba,
a Loyola University law professor and former dean of its law school, was awarded a Fulbright Scholar grant to lecture at the University of Belgrade during the coming academic year. Klebba, who holds the Victor H. Schiro Professorship at Loyola, will teach Introduction to American Law and Comparative Civil Procedure. The prestigious Fulbright Scholarship is awarded by the U.S. Department of State.
The Windsor Court and Maison Orleans Hotels
were named among the 100 Best Hotels in the U.S. and Canada by Travel + Leisure magazine. The Windsor Court's #34 ranking and the Maison Orleans' #64 ranking appeared in the magazine's July issue, which featured its 'World's Best Awards' survey. Travel + Leisure readers ranked the properties on rooms/facilities, location, service, restaurants/food, and value.
Marcia Porter,
a 1987 graduate of the New Orleans Center for the Creative Arts, won the 2004 Artist Award from the National Association of Teachers of Singing. The group presented Porter with the honor during its recent convention in New Orleans. Porter, an assistant professor of voice at Florida State University, holds a doctorate in voice performance and has performed with several opera companies.
Margaret McGinnis,
a former employee at the Social Security Administration's West Bank office, admitted she stole more than $1 million from the federal program by issuing Social Security numbers to nonexistent children and collecting federal benefits sent to them. McGinnis created 37 identities as the 'surviving dependents' of deceased beneficiaries. An accomplice, Carol Gasper, also pleaded guilty in the scheme.
