Steve Gleason,
who's known for both his contributions to the New Orleans Saints' special teams and for his long hair, joined those donating their hair to Locks of Love, a nonprofit organization that provides hair prosthetics to children. Earlier this month, Locks of Love sponsored haircuts at Lakeside Shopping Center.
Lisa Carey and Alfred Donaldson,
a real estate broker and Lockheed Martin Space Center engineer, recently coordinated efforts to donate 50 computers, printers and wireless cards for Internet access to McDonogh No. 35 High School. Carey describes Donaldson and herself as local public school graduates who 'wanted to give something back.'
Winn-Dixie
donated nearly $25,000 to 10 Mid-City schools and nonprofit organizations as part of its Community Pals program. Organizations receiving funds included Cabrini High School, St. John Lutheran School, John Dibert Elementary School and Thurgood Marshall Middle School.
Louisiana's Office of State Buildings,
which maintains 42 state properties, is making it difficult for auditors to determine "whether OSB has efficiently and effectively managed its work control activities," the state legislative auditor reported. The auditor cited OSB for a lack of written policies and procedures, and incomplete work orders. Commissioner of Administration Jerry LeBlanc concurred with most of the audit's recommendations for improvement.
