Donna D. Fraiche
was honored with the New Orleans Bar Association&185;s prestigious Presidents&185; Award for 2004. Fraiche is the first female to earn NOBA&185;s highest award, bestowed on local attorneys based on professional excellence, integrity and community service.

Sgt. John M. "Mike" Montalbano
of the New Orleans Police Department was promoted to lieutenant last week by Police Chief Eddie Compass while in the hospital recovering from a gunshot wound received on narcotics detail last month. NOPD will hold a fundraiser Oct. 22 to help Montalbano with living expenses.

Four Jefferson parish sheriff's deputies
pleaded guilty last week to taking bribes. In the ongoing federal corruption probe into dealings in the Gretna courthouse, Capt. William Giangrosso, Lts. Myrtis Randall and Edward Still, and Sgt. Landry Forges pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit mail fraud.

The City of New Orleans
last week allowed the demolition of a row of historic buildings at South Rampart and Common streets. In March 2002, the then-City Council cleared the way for the destruction of the buildings, which preservationists and jazz historians say are integral to city's history, noting they included an early haunt of Louis Armstrong. The site will be used as a parking garage.
