2002 Clancy's
Barossa, Australia
$14-$17
Twice selected among the top 100 wines of the year by Wine Spectator, this wine was produced by Peter Lehmann, one of south Australia's top wineries. Recognized for its high quality and value, the wine is a blend of 54 percent Shiraz, 29 percent Cabernet Sauvignon, 12 percent Merlot and 5 percent Cabernet Franc. Aromas of ripe plums and currants amid nuances of violets and cocoa precede dark berry flavors and a whisper of pepper enveloped in velvety tannins. An excellent vintage. Good with lamb kebabs, barbecue and pasta Bolognese. Available at Whole Foods Market (Magazine Street location), The Wine Seller, Sidney's Wine Cellar, Dorignac's and Reker's Wine Cellar in Slidell. (Store listings current at press time.)
