1999 Castello di Volpaia Chianti Classico Riserva
Tuscany, Italy $18-$22
Grapes for this exceptional wine were sourced from premier vineyards in Tuscany's Chianti Classico region between Florence and Sienna. A blend of 90 percent Sangiovese and 10 percent Merlot, Pinot Noir and Syrah, the wine was aged in Slavonian oak casks and French oak barriques for two years. An elegant wine with aromas of dried cherry and nuances of spice with well-integrated tannins and intense ripe berry, coffee and attractive tobacco character. An excellent vintage. Enjoy now or cellar for several years. Good with Italian sausage and peppers, herb-roasted chicken and bracioloni. Available at Cork & Bottle, Dorignac's, and Hugh's Wine Cellar in Mandeville.
