Ruth's Chris Steak House
was named ³Best Steak House in the United States' among national chains in Restaurants & Institutions magazine. It also won national trade magazine's highest overall rating. The publication ranked eateries on such categories as atmosphere, cleanliness, convenience, food quality, good reputation and service, among which Ruth's Chris received the highest ratings. The New Orleans-based chain was founded in 1965 by Ruth Fertel.

Margaret McMillan
of Lafayette has become the first woman ever inducted into the Offshore Energy Center's Hall of Fame in Houston. McMillan, now in her mid-80s, was honored by the offshore drilling industry for pioneering a safety and survival training program through her company, McMillan Offshore Survival Technology. The company has since become an international leader in offshore safety.

Local "Tribute to Excellence" winners,
bestowed by the Big Brothers/Big Sisters of America for outstanding work on behalf of children, were honored at a recent gala. Winners included Adelaide Wisdom Benjamin of the Mary Freeman Wisdom Foundation; Audubon Institute CEO Ron Forman; Xavier University president Norman Francis; New Orleans Saints player Deuce McAllister; Krewe of Endymion founder Ed Muniz; and Taylor Energy CEO Pat Taylor.

The Clerk of Criminal Court's office
again presided over an election in Orleans Parish plagued by major, preventable problems. Broken voting machines were delivered to several precincts for the Nov. 2 election, resulting in some voters being asked to return or causing unnecessary delays for those braving the pouring rain to vote. Criminal Court Clerk Kimberly Williamson Butler should have ensured that all machines were in working order prior to their delivery.
