2000 Mount Veeder Cabernet
Sauvignon Napa Valley, California $30-
$38
Mount Veeder winery shares its name with one of Napa's premier American Viticultural Areas (AVAs), an origination other vintners sourcing grapes from the region proudly display on their labels. At 2600 feet elevation, grapes achieved slow, even ripening on Mount Veeder's sun-drenched hillsides. A blend of 76 percent Cabernet Sauvignon and 24 percent Merlot, this big, well-structured, supple wine shows black fruit and mocha aromas, with plummy, blackberry chocolate and toasty oak flavors. Good with steak, venison and prime rib. Available at Sidney's Wine Cellar, Vieux Carré Wine and Spirits, Sav-A-Center on Tchoupitoulas Street and Veterans Memorial Boulevard, Langenstein's, Dorignac's, Rouse's-Covington, Hugh's Wine Cellar-Mandeville and Reker's Wine Cellar-Slidell. (Store listings current at press time.)
