WINE OF THE WEEK By Brenda Maitland 12 28 04

2002 Crios Cabernet Sauvignon
Mendoza, Argentina
$13-$17

Winemaker Susana Balbo carefully blended separate lots of fully ripened Cabernet Sauvignon for this wine, which exhibits good fruit concentration, even tannins and excellent balance and structure. Aged 11 months in 50 percent each year-old French and American barriques, the wine presents tempting aromas of ripe red fruit and vanillin followed by textured plum and currant flavors with dark chocolate and spicy oak accents. Drinking well now but will age gracefully over the next several years. Delicious with grilled or roasted beef, veal or lamb, wild game and hearty cheeses. Available at Cork & Bottle, Hopper's Wine and Spirits, Dorignac's, Louisiana Star in Covington and Hugh's Wine Cellar in Mandeville. (Store listings current at press time.)
