2003 Marquis Philips Shiraz Southeastern
Australia $16-$18
Southeastern Australia, with its strong maritime influence and warm valley floor, is home to many of the country's exceptional wine regions. Grapes for this wine were sourced from McLaren Vale (30 percent), Padthaway (30 percent) and the hillsides of the up and coming Fleurieu Penninsula (40 percent). Aged in 100 percent American oak, this firmly structured wine offers rich dark fruit and floral aromas followed by spicy plum, rhubarb and black currant flavors with oaky notes and finely grained tannins. Good with grilled or roasted meats, stews and casseroles. Available at The Wine Seller, Cork & Bottle, Martin Wine Cellars (both locations) and Cru Wines on the Northshore. (Store listings current at press time.)
