There are mostly Chinese dishes here, although there are nods to Japanese ingredients as well. There are about 40 choices of tapas, many of which are served cold. Reservations accepted for large groups. Dinner Thursday through Tuesday until midnight. Credit cards. $

UPSTAIRS AT MIMI'S 2601 Royal St. 947-8015 Go light with a glass of Spanish red and a plate of olives at the bar, or savor a small meal of herb-stuffed pequillo peppers, mushroom manchego toast or gambas al ajillo (shrimp sauteed with garlic and white wine). No reservations. Dinner and late-night daily. Credit cards. $$

VEGA TAPAS CAFE 2051 Metairie Road, Metairie 836-2007; www.vegatapascafe.com Chef Michael Hampton fuses the tastes of Spain and the Mediterranean for his own unique style that won the hearts of Gambit Weekly readers: Vega Tapas was voted best tapas/small plate restaurant in 2004. Hampton suggests the Serrano ham-wrapped quail with fig glaze or the braised empanada with romesco sauce. Reservations recommended. Dinner daily. Credit cards and checks. $$
