2002 Ruvei Barbera d'Alba
Piedmont,Italy $11-$15
Prime vineyards in the Langhe hills in southeastern Piedmont yielded the 100 percent Barbera grapes for this wine. Produced in the historic cellars of the Cantine dei Marchesi di Barolo that date back to the 12th century, this vibrant young wine with a slightly rustic edge gives off fresh red and dark fruit aromas with hints of chocolate and licorice. On the palate, juicy cherry and blackberry flavors fill the mouth sparked by a zesty, balanced acidity. Drink now and over the next four to six years. Good with appetizers, risotto, cheese, poultry, pork and veal. Available at The Wine Seller, Dorignac's and Acquistapace's Covington Super Market. (Store listings current at press time.)
