Hardys Whiskers Blake Tawny Port
South Eastern Australia
$12-$14

Just because it's not from Portugal, don't dismiss this excellent, affordable Aussie Port, named for a 1900s-era codger who watched over the vineyards. Separate lots aged an average eight years in small oak casks before blending. In the glass, the deep copper-colored liquid offers scents of orange rind, apricots, nuts and sweet spice. Rich, well structured and full flavored with a balanced acidity. Look for tastes of caramel, nutty raisin and butterscotch on the palate. Will keep for several weeks after opening. Great for sipping or paired with Stilton, honey roasted nuts, maple flavored desserts and dark chocolate. Available at Elio's Wine Warehouse, Dorignac's and Habano's of Slidell. (Store listings current at press time.)
