2001 Domaine Drouhin Pinot
Noir
Willamette Valley, Oregon
$32-$35

Oregon's role as the New World's geographic counterpart to Burgundy was further enhanced when the highly respected Burgundian Drouhins chose Willamette Valley to open Domaine Drouhin in the late 1980s. Pinot Noir has never been so seductive! Fully ripened fruit is aged 12 months in 20 percent new French oak. Aromas of red and dark fruit yield to round tannins and intense flavors of cherry, cassis and blackberry in this richly textured wine. Drinking well now with five to eight years aging potential. Food friendly with both seafood -- especially salmon and tuna -- meat and game. Available at Hopper's Wines and Spirits, Vieux Carré Wine and Spirits, both Martin Wine Cellars, and Dorignac's. (Store listings current at press time.)
