2001 Chalk Hill Chardonnay

Chalk Hill, Russian River Valley, California $28 -$30 Fifteen different clones provided both the inspiration and foundation for grapes sourced from 30 small, distinct vineyard lots. Aged nine months in 40 percent new wood, the wine is well balanced without the usual overly oaked aromas found in many California Chardonnays, which generally tend to mask flaws. Mineral and lemon scented, with pear and apple tones, citrus and spice notes. Good with chicken salad, seafood and pork. Available at The Wine Seller, Winn-Dixie on Tchoupitoulas Street, Prytania Liquor Store, Vieux Carré Wine and Spirits, Sidney's Wine Cellar, both Martin Wine Cellar locations, Dorignac's, Cellars of River Ridge, Langenstein's, Acquistapace's Covington Super Market, Albertson's (Covington) and Sav-A-Center (Mandeville).
