HANA JAPANESE RESTAURANT
8116 Hampson St. 865-1634 This neighborhood favorite is both a sushi bar and a full Japanese restaurant, providing light lunches and hot meals of noodles or cooked fish. HARD ROCK CAFE
418 N. Peters St. 529-5617; www.hardrock.com This rock 'n' roll-themed institution is, surprisingly, debuting 64 new menu items this spring. It assures us, though, that they'll all be in the vein of the American soda-shop classics we rely on, like the juicy burgers and tasty ice cream floats. And you'll still be able to dine in the shadow of Britney Spears' hand-me-downs. No reservations. Lunch and dinner daily. Credit cards. $$

HEAVENLY HAM
5300 Tchoupitoulas St. 891-5100 This deli prides itself on quick service, but with tasty gourmet sandwiches like these, you might want to linger. HEDGES BAR AND GRILL

HILLBILLY BAR-B-Q
208 Tallulah Ave., River Ridge 738-1508 The hillbillies are moving -- but not to Beverly Hills, just into a new expanded space at the same address. All the better to accommodate the crowds that accumulate for a taste of the smoked barbecue chicken, pork and beef with all the sides, like coleslaw, baked beans and macaroni and cheese. There's plenty of truth in those time-honored justifications, especially with time-tested, hearty bar food like burgers, famous hot wings, quesadillas and Carolina-style roasted oysters served with drawn butter. Reservations for large parties only. Lunch, dinner and late-night daily. Credit cards. $
