2003 Panarroz
Jumilla, Spain
$7-$10

Equal amounts of Syrah, Garnacha and Monastrell (in France, called Mouvedre) from the Jumilla Domaine of Origin (DO) in southeastern Spain were blended for this Southern Rhone-style wine. Fermented and aged in stainless tanks, the wine is extremely concentrated and aromatic, with a chewy texture and compelling flavors. An exceptional value, the wine offers fully ripened dark fruit aromas with earth and spice notes, followed by jammy black cherry, blackberry, black currants, and more spice on the palate. Improves with splash decanting. Good with herbal roast chicken, cassoulet and grilled meats. Available at Cork & Bottle, The Wine Seller, Vieux Carré Wine and Spirits, Bacchanal, Elio's Wine Warehouse and Matassa's Market. (Store listings current at press time.)
