Snappy Fashion

Kandace Power Graves

Brass beads and buttons are sewn over netting to add glitz to a blue tank top designed by Tracy Reese for Plenty, available at Snap.
Of-the-moment fashions that not only are hip but wearable are what shoppers have come to expect from Snap (240 Metairie Road, 849-9988).

The women's boutique, which opened in November 2004, offers casual, work and dressy apparel from makers such as La Roc, BCBG, Sweetees, Raw 7, Classic Girl, Alexia Admor, Plenty, Generra, Paper Denim & Cloth and others.

"I've always had a passion for clothes," says Snap owner Jenny Carr, "and I always wanted to work for myself, have a small business." She travels to markets on both the East and West coasts to bring her customers a variety of choices on the cutting-edge of fashion.

"I buy from markets in L.A. and New York, most of it in L.A.," she says. "That's more my vibe; it's a little younger, a little more hip. And I think most of the buyers from New Orleans stores go just to New York.

"I [select] things that are trendy but wearable" and in a range of prices, she says. "My trendy things tend to be not quite as expensive, and my more classic, more conservative things tend to be the higher end."

To help customers with the complete fashion picture, Snap shares the space with Shoefty, which stocks fashion-forward shoes, handbags and jewelry. The store is designed to accommodate teenagers as well as their mothers. "I really go for all age groups, everyone from high school to their moms," she says. "That's who I try to cater to, and I also do the in-betweens, the college girls and women in their 20s."
