2003 Penfolds Bin 2 Shiraz Mouvedre South
Eastern Australia $9-$12
A medium-bodied, simple wine at the lower end of Penfolds' wide-ranging style and price-point spectrum. A blend of 81 percent Shiraz and 19 percent Mourvedre, the wine drinks more like a southern Rhone than an Aussie. Aromas of ripe plum, spice and earth yield to dark cherry, raspberry and licorice notes on the palate. Well-integrated oak and tannins. What the wine lacks in complexity, it makes up for in softness. Splash decant for optimum results. Drink now through 2008. Good with beef, game and lamb. Available at Robert's Fresh Market on Robert E. Lee, Sav-A-Center, Winn-Dixie, The Wine Seller, Dorignac's, Langenstein's (Metairie location) and Rouse's in Covington. (Store listings current at press time.)
