All-natural doggie delicacies displayed on a 'party tray' are made fresh at Three Dog Bakery, which also sells such canine accessories as dog dishes, treat canisters and pet clothing.

For people whose dogs are more members of the family than pets, Three Dog Bakery (827 Royal St., 525-2253) makes all-natural fresh treats and stocks other special items for those special canines.
'I just love dogs and I always loved baking, so the things just came together,' says Heather Butler, who has owned the business since 1999. She makes most of the edible products and even makes special birthday cakes for doggie parties held at the store or elsewhere. 'We make dog biscuits in different flavors, pastries, Bow-wow Beignets, petit fours, birthday cakes,' she says. 'We use all-natural, quality ingredients ... and we flavor the cakes with low-fat yogurt and honey icing.'
Butler devises new recipes, which she has reviewed by veterinarians and pet nutritionists, then tries out on her own dog, Bailey, a plump Jack Russell Terrier who serves as 'resident quality-control officer.' He also plays host to other dogs who come into the shop.
'We're very dog friendly,' Butler says. 'We have some local dogs that come in every day, and we have other people who just make a special day of it. It's such a great thing to do for your dog -- bring them somewhere where they can socialize and get yummy treats.'
On the third Wednesday of every month, the bakery hosts 'Yappy Hour,' special theme parties such as Mardi Gras and Halloween costume events.
Best-selling items include anything with peanut butter, Pawlines, and bone-shaped birthday cakes. The store also sells toys, collars and leashes, dog carriers and dog clothes.
Southern Stars
Revel in Southern culture, support the arts and do a bit of shopping during Sippin' in Seersucker from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, May 13, at The Shops at Canal Place (333 Canal St.). The event features displays of Southern art, including photographs by Herman Leonard, Southern cocktails and cuisine, live music, fashion and shopping. Tickets for the event are $30 and entitle the holder to one admission to the The Ogden Museum of Southern Art. Proceeds of the event will benefit the museum. For tickets, call 522-9200.
