The existence of New Orleans is due in no small part to the Mississippi River. Its mythic persona is world famous, thanks to Mark Twain, among others. Rivertown Repertory Theatre presents a production of the Tony Award-winning musical adapted from The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn written by the man who took his pseudonym from nautical terminology, with music and lyrics by country music icon Roger Miller. Big River is a tale about the great adventure shared by a young Huck Finn and his friend Jim -- both runaways, one from a drunk father, the other from his white master -- as they travel down the Mississippi. Co-star Gary Rucker directs Scott Sauber, Tony Molina Jr. and others. Tickets $25 general admission, $22 students/seniors, $12 kids ages 6-12. An optional pre-performance buffet dinner (reservations required) from Messina's is available for $18.
