2003 Bouchard Pere et Fils Bourgogne Rouge
France / $13-$15
An especially warm summer in France's Cote d'Or produced wines of luscious ripeness and low acidity. Bouchard, one of Burgundy's oldest and largest domains, fashioned this extremely well-made and perfectly balanced wine from 100 percent Pinot Noir. Expect classic red berry aromas with spice notes and concentrated flavors with enticing dried cherries framed in a fine but firm tannin structure. A very approachable wine, value-priced and exceptionally food friendly, pairing well with grilled fish, chicken, meat and cheese. This would make an excellent 'house' wine, especially for the summer. Drinking well now and over the next four years. Available at Hopper's Wines and Spirits and Cork & Bottle. (Store listings current at press time.) -- Brenda Maitland
