2005 Memorial Day Circuit Party Weekend

By David Lee Simmons

The annual Memorial Day Circuit Party Weekend in Pensacola provides the first bookend of the summer party season just as Southern Decadence in New Orleans provides the other bookend, but also gives the Florida beach town a chance to shake off the debris from last fall's hurricane damage and have some fun. Thousands flock to Pensacola's beaches and nightclubs for parties both day and night. This year's celebration promises 11 different parties and 10 DJs over five days. While many events remain the same, party goers will be happy to hear that Wave, the Friday-night beach party, has been moved and renamed this year because of repairs underway at the previous location. And so, Hurricane (appropriately enough) will be held at the Hilton Garden Inn (12 Via De Luna Drive, Pensacola Beach, Fla.; 877-782-9444 or 850-916-2999) from 10 p.m. to 3 a.m. The Hilton Garden Inn, the official headquarters, will also serve as host for the Bounce afternoon parties. Some of the DJs appearing include Jay-R, Tracy Young, Manny Lehman, David Knapp, Mary Pappas and Dewight Barkley (pictured), who will spin at the Climax party on Monday at the recently renovated Emerald City Nightclub (406 E. Wright St., Pensacola, Fla.; 850-433-9491). For more information, visit www.memorialdayweekendpensacola.com or www.ozneworleans.com.
