Wild Safari 3D: A South African Adventure
By David Lee Simmons
IMAX films are at their best when they transport the viewer into that 'you are there' world where the atmosphere is almost all consuming. And as the summer months approach, there's something even more alluring about losing yourself in the overwhelming sensorial experience that is an IMAX film. And we can't think of a better way to lose yourself than in Ben Stassen's Wild Safari 3D: A South African Adventure, which takes the IMAX cameras along for a ride through the wilds of South Africa where lions and rhinos and elephants (oh, my!) are just a paw or two away. Zoologist Liesl Eichenberger takes the viewer through the grasslands of Addo/Shamwari, the savannahs of the Kalahari and beyond. Wild Safari 3D marks the first large-format movie to show wildlife with stereoscopic photography, which promises one fun, bumpy ride. Tickets $8 adults, $7 seniors, $5 children ages 2-12.
Opens Wednesday, May 27 Entergy IMAX, 1 Canal St., 581-IMAX; www.auduboninstitute.org
