2001 Nozzole Chianti Classico Riserva
Tuscany, Italy
$17 -$23

The 800-year-old Nozzole estate produced this wine in the prestigious Chianti Classico zone, midway between Florence and Sienna. Aged two years in Slavonian oak, the wine is a blend of 91 percent Sangiovese which imparts body, complexity and structure; 7 percent Canaiolo and Colorino for color and suppleness, and 2 percent Trebbiano and Malvasia (white grapes) to supply nuance and freshness. In the glass, dark berry aromas intermingle with earthy, woodsy notes followed by a full palate of ripe fruit flavors with mushroom undertones. Good with veal, pasta, antipasto, and garlic-rosemary roast chicken. Available at Lakeview Fine Foods, Hopper's Wine and Spirits, Winn-Dixie (Chalmette location), Rouse's in Covington and Pontchartrain Fresh Foods in Slidell. (Store listings current at press time.)
