2003 Sticks Shiraz
Yarra Valley, Australia
$12 -$16

Victoria, mainland Australia's southern-most wine region, is home to a number of outstanding wine districts. Just northeast of Melbourne, the Yarra Valley, with its cooling sea breezes, produces some of the area's most renowned wines. Matured for eight to 10 months in both new and seasoned American oak, this medium-bodied, 100 percent Shiraz offers aromas of dark berry fruits with white pepper and toasty oak notes. On the palate, the wine is soft, velvety-textured, showing flavors of black currant, mulberry and spice with subtle tannins. Very easy drinking with cellaring potential for five to eight years. Good with barbeque ribs, chicken and pork loin. Available at Lakeview Fine Foods, Cork & Bottle, Cellars of River Ridge and Rouse's in Covington. (Store listings current at press time.)=
