Caryl Churchill's Top Girls is a witty examination of women's success in the business world. This probing play examines the questions that accompany the ascent, such as "What exactly is success?" and "Is it worth the price?" The play opens with a dinner party featuring Marlene, a rising star in the corporate world, as she entertains an eclectic cast of women including Pope Joan, one of the largest skeletons in the Catholic church's closet, and Lady Nijo, a Japanese courtesan. The women include historical and literary figures who tested or crashed into the boundaries set for women in their times. Then the play turns to Marlene's present day and explores her life and efforts to rise above working-class origins. A visit with her sister Joyce, who stayed at home, got married and is raising a child, lets them compare the choices they have each made. Churchill is an acclaimed British playwright and Top Girls is the type of drama that can keep the conversation going for months after it ends. The all-female cast includes Tulane students Kristin Faucher, Claire Gresham, Helen Jaksch, Jessica Lewis, Nancy Schmitt, Amy Sherman and Jenny Smith. Tickets $12 general admission, $9 Tulane faculty/staff, $7.50 students/seniors. -- Vi Landry
