Ballin's Ltd. (721 Dante St., 866-4367; www.ballinsltd.com) is hosting a special trunk show during regular store hours Friday and Saturday, Sept. 29-30. The event will include an appearance by the designer of A.R.T.E, featuring silk apparel as well as new designs by DeTaille and J'Envie structured modern clothing.

Dunn & Sonnier antiques and Flowers has returned to the space it occupied before Hurricane Katrina at 2138 Magazine St. (524-3235). The building that housed Dunn & Sonnier was heavily damaged in the hurricane, and the business had been operating out of temporary quarters a few doors away from its original spot.

Harrah's New Orleans Hotel opened last weekend on the corner of Poydras and Fulton streets with 450 rooms and 26 stories. The facility will include displays of artworks by local artists such as Gene Koss, John T. Scott, Richard Sexton, Allison Stewart, Elemore Morgan Jr. and Willie Birch as well as the jazz club 528 and the new restaurant Riche, featuring cuisine from celebrity chef Todd English. Gordon Biersch Brewery Restaurant, which has been open at Harrah's for two years, will have a classic beer garden on Fulton Street.

Hazelnut (5515 Magazine St., 891-2424; www.hazelnutneworleans.com) is hosting a preview of furniture and home accessories by popular artist Jonathan Adler from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sept. 30. Wine and hors d'oeuvres will be served.

The Louisiana SPCA (368-5191; www.la-spca.org) is holding a pet adoption fair from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 30, in conjunction with the reopening of Winn-Dixie (4600 Chef Menteur Hwy., Gentilly).

New Orleans Creative Glass Institute (NOCGI) (3924B Conti St., 482-6003, www.nocgi.org) last weekend held a grand opening at its Mid-City location to introduce its open-access studio for professional glass artists, enthusiasts and beginning students. The nonprofit studio will offer An array of classes in glass blowing, fusing, casting and lampworking, and studio rental is available.
