WINE OF THE WEEK 12 05 06

Wine of the Week

By Brenda Maitland

2005 Matanzas Creek Sauvignon Blanc
Sonoma County, California
$13-$20
One of SonomaÕs foremost wineries, Matanzas Creek, may be best known for their much-admired Chardonnays, yet all of the house labels, including this fresh, lively Sauvignon Blanc, are well-crafted wines exhibiting vibrant fruit character. Aromas of Meyer lemon, pink grapefruit and a hint of floral fragrance (from blending 12 percent Sauvignon Musque Ñ a clonal cousin to Sauvignon Blanc) are followed with crisp citrus and melon flavors in a smooth, rounded style. An excellent aperitif and good with fish, shellfish, Asian cuisines and soft cheeses. Where to buy it: Vieux Carre Wine and Spirits, Prytania Liquor Store, Whole Foods Markets, most Sav-A-Centers, DorignacÕs, Martin Wine Cellar (Metairie), LangensteinÕs (Metairie), Breaux Mart Supermarkets, Cost Plus World Markets, The Wine Market in Slidell and AcquistapaceÕs Covington Supermarket. Where to drink it: Bacco, BrigtsenÕs, GalatoireÕs, Jacques-ImoÕs, Bombay Club, PascalÕs Manale, Upperline, Vega Tapas Cafe, VincentÕs Italian Cuisine Uptown and Metairie, Flaming Torch, Basil Leaf, ChopÕs Bistro, Jazz Seafood and Steakhouse in Kenner, PalmettoÕs in Slidell and D. LaMarque in Mandeville. (Listings current at press time.) Ñ Brenda Maitland
