The French Consulate has orchestrated a mini street festival on the Frenchmen Street strip in the Marigny. CafŽ Brasil opens its doors at 3 p.m. for a forum moderated by Leah Chase and including both French and local musicians and jazz educators who will discuss cultural links between France and Louisiana. The acrobats, jugglers and clowns of Le Prato (pictured), a street circus from Lille, France, will perform at 5 p.m., and several participating clubs will feature early jazz sets, including Trombone Shorty at Snug Harbor, Don Vappie and Music a la Creole at CafŽ Brasil, Linnzi Zaorski at d.b.a. and music all afternoon at the Spotted Cat. Many French musicians, jazz educators and scholars are on tours associated with the International Association of Jazz Educators meeting in New York City and will perform in New Orleans in coming weeks. The local French Consulate is sponsoring visits to New Orleans for many of them. Le Prato also will perform on Saturday, Jan. 13, at the CAC and will visit several area schools.
