WINE OF THE WEEK 02 27 07

Wine of the Week

By Brenda Maitland

2003 Sincerely Sauvignon Blanc
South Africa
$13-$15 Retail
Within the past 10 years or so, some excellent Sauvignon Blancs from South Africa have made their way to America and are taking their place alongside labels from New Zealand, California and France. Neil Ellis, one of the best producers of South African Sauvignon Blanc, sourced the fruit for this delightful wine from vineyards on the countryÕs breezy southwestern coast. Made from a multi-vineyard blend, the wine exhibits more of a Loire Valley style, with apple and citrus aromas followed by clean, refreshing subtle lime flavors, herbaceous overtones, a crisp acidity and lingering finish. A versatile food wine that harmonizes with a variety of dishes, it goes well with shellfish, soft cheeses, bouillabaisse or Asian cuisine. Where to buy it: Martin Wine Cellar Uptown, Metairie and Mandeville and Terranova Brothers Superette. Where to drink it: One Restaurant and Lounge, Jackson, CafŽ Minh, SchiroÕs CafŽ and Bar and Hip Stix. (Listings current at press time.)
