So near and yet so unique, it's easy to forget that Grand Isle is in Jefferson Parish. More famous for fishing than fine art, it has embraced both in recent years even as it fights for its life. Art, after all, has the power to raise awareness, and this annual expo has in its brief history attracted a stellar cast. The tradition continues with juror Raine Bedsole and a host of distinguished artists including Barbara Brainard, Sallie Ann Glassman, Jeremy Jernegan, Cynthia Scott, Dennis Siporsky, Michel Varisco and Bobby Wozniak, among others. Sponsored by the Town of Grand Isle and its Port Commission, its goal is to "raise awareness of Louisiana's coastal erosion through the artist's eye" and to "preserve this culture and its disappearing habitat for future generations."
