La Boheme
Giacomo Puccini's La Boheme tells the classic story of young artists savoring every day despite a life of poverty. Set in Paris's Latin Quarter, the popular opera follows Rodolfo and Mimi's love story as they struggle to survive in the glamorous city. La Boheme's music and story echo throughout contemporary pop culture. The opera inspired the award-winning Broadway musical Rent, and its music has been featured in movies such as Moonstruck, Trading Places and Heavenly Creatures. The production marks the conclusion of the New Orleans Opera Association's 64th season. Louisiana native Sarah Jane McMahon (pictured) stars as Musetta, along with Georgia Jarman as Mimi, Simon O'Neill as Rodolfo and Daniel Mobbs as Marcello. David Morelock directs and Robert Lyall conducts the orchestra. Tickets $10-$120. -- Emily Hohenwarter
