Wine of the Week

By Brenda Maitland

2006 Benton-Lane Pinot Gris
Willamette Valley, Oregon
$15-$17 Retail
The winery with the postage stamp-styled labels, Benton-Lane is primarily known for award-winning Pinot Noirs, but give this straw-toned, highly rated honey a taste. Fermented from estate-grown grapes in cool temperature, stainless steel tanks to maintain the fresh fruit flavor and aromas, the wine is floral and pear-scented with tropical fruit nuances. On the palate, it exhibits crisp acidity with zesty citrus and tart apple flavors and a touch of white peaches on the clean, lingering finish. It has smooth tannins and perfectly balanced acidity. Drink now with fish and shellfish, creamy pasta and risotto dishes, light appetizers and soft cheeses. Where to buy it: Swirl Wine Market and Cork & Bottle. Where to drink it: Marigny Brasserie, Olivier's and Commander's Palace. (Listings current at press time.) — Brenda Maitland Questions? Email winediva1@earthlink.net.
