Wine of the Week

By Brenda Maitland

2005 "Z" Zeta Garnacha
Navarra, Spain
$14-$17 Retail
A tantalizing export from Spain's Navarra region, this 100 percent Garnacha (Grenache) wine exemplifies quality as well as value. Following fermentation, the wine rested in tanks, bypassing any oak aging prior to bottling. The resulting product features soft, even tannins, a solid structure, fine fruit character and good acidity in a well-balanced, medium-bodied package. In the glass, a swirl releases flutters of bright cherry and ripe raspberry aromas with earth notes. On the palate, more jammy, red berry fruit mingles with black fruit flavors, some spice and mocha nuances. Drink now and over the next two to four years. A good match with tapas, tamales, grilled meat and game, chile and paella. Where to buy it: Bacchanal and Dorignac's. Where to drink it: Vega Tapas Café and the Bridge Lounge. (Listings current at press time.)
