Wine of the Week

By Brenda Maitland

2004 Murphy-Goode Liar's Dice Zinfandel
Sonoma County, California
$16-$20 Retail
The folks at Murphy-Goode are betting that wine enthusiasts will fall in love with this big, rich, tasty Zin. Most of the grapes for the wine were sourced from Alexander Valley with another 20 percent from parcels in Dry Creek. In the glass, tantalizing aromas of ripe, dark fruit are followed by lush flavors of black cherries, raspberries, blackberries and plums with characteristic Zin bramble overtones and cedar spice notes. It's a food-friendly wine best enjoyed with grilled sausage, pasta with hearty meat sauce, barbecue, burgers and pizza. Where to buy it: Whole Foods Markets in Uptown and Metairie, Martin Wine Cellar in Metairie, Dorignac's, Langenstein's in Metairie and Breaux Mart in River Ridge. Where to drink it: Marigny Brasserie, Crescent City Steakhouse, Orleans Grapevine Wine Bar and Bistro and Vincent's Italian Cuisine in Uptown. (Listings current at press time.)
