The strictly traditional country act Mike Hurtt and the Haunted Hearts have been somewhat on hiatus over the past year, due in part to the stylistically improbable schedule conflict of guitarist J.D. Mark touring with the electro-rock band LCD Soundsystem. Mark and other far-flung band members " who, in the past, have backed up Louisiana country personality and official state troubadour Jay Chevalier " have been reunited for a set of Mardi Gras gigs, and the snap-button-shirt-and-Wranglers set is all the better for it. Hurtt and his compadres play purely old-school country of the Hank Senior and Lefty Frizzell variety, swinging between honky-tonk and rockabilly with acoustic guitars, upright bass and pedal steel.
