Reputed Gulf Coast crime boss Carlos Marcello is buried at Westlawn Memorial Park in Terrytown with his mother and father.

The private funeral at Mothe Funeral Home on Westbank Expressway in Harvey was attended only by the immediate family and a few close friends. Marcello died in his sleep at his Metairie home on Tuesday, March 2, 1993, at age 83. The cause of death was not revealed, but Marcello suffered from Alzheimer's disease and had been in poor health for years.

Can you tell me more about Stephen J. Barbre, the man for whom the middle school in Kenner was named?

Stephen Jefferson Barbre was involved in education his entire life. A native of Point Coupee Parish, he graduated from LSU in 1920 and got his first position as assistant principal at Jena High School in 1921. He became principal of Loranger High School in 1922 and remained there until he took over the position at Kenner High School in 1924.

Thirty-one years and a master's degree in education later, Principal Barbre was honored at a testimonial dinner where he was presented with a plaque for his 'outstanding service to the community." But Barbre wasn't retiring. He was becoming principal of the brand new East Jefferson Consolidated High School.

Barbre did retire in 1964. When he died in 1972, he was buried in the Garden of Memories Cemetery. Kenner Junior High was renamed in his honor in 1993.

I was looking through some old trumpet music that a friend had given me when a postcard fell out. On the front of the card is a picture of "Blue" Prestopnik. The back says "'Blue' Prestopnik — Suave saxophone stylist and his Orchestra presently open for all musical engagements in and around New Orleans, La." It was signed "'Blue." The postmark is Nov. 14, 1955. Do you know anything about Irving Fazola's brother Blue? Any suggestions as to what to do with the postcard?

I'm afraid that Blue's only real claim to fame was to be the brother of the great "Faz." Louis J. Prestopnik was born in 1916, four years after his soon-to-be famous brother. Fazola was the great talent in the family, and Blue lived in his shadow. Blue died on Dec. 23, 1959 at age 43, 10 years after Faz, whose real name was Irving. He was survived by his mother Camille, his wife Rosemary, his daughter Pamela Anne and sister Delicia. Burial was in St. Louis Cemetery No. 3.
