2002 Marquis Mazzei Serrata di Belguardo

Tuscany, Italy / $21-$23 Retail

A super Tuscan and a super buy, this excellent wine is a blend of 65 percent Sangiovese, 30 percent Cabernet Sauvignon and 5 percent Merlot. It was aged one year in 30 percent new French and American barriques. Aromatic and elegant, the wine exudes concentrated flavors of cassis and black plum with leathery and earthy notes. It has supple tannins and a long, rich finish. It's a fine accompaniment to antipasto plates and dishes like osso buco, cannelloni, Italian sausages, roasted meats, game and fowl. Buy it at: Rouses in Uptown and Corkscrewed. — Brenda Maitland
