Sometimes, we are where we eat. Dining in the French Quarter can remind diners why they live in New Orleans in the first place. For some, feasting on pho on the West Bank is a new experience; for others, it's a family tradition. And there's nothing like a seafood platter in Bucktown to let you know there's no place like home.

Welcome to dining in New Orleans, which is defined by geography as much as it is by cuisine. We are a city of neighborhoods, which is what makes our annual fall restaurant guide so special; New Orleanians have always known that Galatoire's is in the French Quarter, Camellia Grill is in Carollton, Crescent City Steakhouse is in Mid-City, Mosca's is on the West Bank. But there are so many points in between -- about 700 or so, a number that requires its own special road map.

Here's yours.

Bayou St. John Jefferson
Bucktown Kenner
Bywater Lakefront
Carrollton Lakeview
CBD Metairie
Central City Mid-City
Chalmette Northshore
Citywide Old Metairie
Eastern New Orleans River Ridge
Faubourg Marigny Uptown
French Quarter Warehouse District
Gentilly West Bank

Dollar signs after restaurant descriptions reflect the average price for a dinner entree:

$ -- $5 to $10
$$ -- $11 to $20
$$$ -- $21 or more
