2003 Le Signal, Domaine Lignères

Languedoc-Roussillon, France / $17-$21 Retail

A remarkable import from Corbieres, one of the Languedoc's largest appellations, Le Signal drinks like a huge Rhône wine. It's a full-bodied blend of traditional southern Rhône varietals: 80 percent Carignan, 10 percent Grenache and 5 percent each Syrah and Mourvedre. It exudes concentrated aromas of ripe plum, blackberry and raspberry underscored by earthy notes and black pepper. In the mouth, savor intense fruit, firm tannins and balanced acidity. It's great with everything from red beans and sausage, to barbecue and steaks to strong cheeses. Buy it at: Swirl Wines, W.I.N.O. Drink it at: Stella! and Lüke.
